Podio…THE Small Business Project Management Dashboard

Podio: Business Project ManagementAlright, this is very neat. Podio is a one stop project management platform built for small businesses. It is free for teams of 10 and under and costs $99/month for a 25 user license. This is fantastic for the low budget home business or small business.

It is an easy 3 step process to get started and get planning.

1) Create Space- Podio lets you designate “Space” and name it however you like. For example you could create a different space for each project you are working on and design each space differently with different applications.

2) Add Applications– Podio has its own application marketplace with tons of free apps and it also gives you the option of creating your own apps. The way the marketplace is set up there are different “Functions” and “Sectors” of apps, such as Project Management, Community Management, Sales, Marketing, and many more. Some application examples would be: Tasks, Client Reports, Sales Tracking, Schedule Meetings, Team Blog, File Sharing, Milestones, Due Dates, Marketing Campaign Strategy, and many more.

3) Add team members, clients, etc – In this step you invite your project team members or your project clients to your dashboard so that you can interact. Your team or client have the ability to comment on tasks, ask questions, and do just about anything else. This is a great tool for reporting and communicating goals

I started my own Podio profile as soon as I heard about it and am using it to manage my client projects and my personal project ideas. I am loving it so far!

Small business owners and all you project/task oriented folks out there check this out, you’ll love it.

Bad News Travels Fast, Is This Good Or Bad For Your Business?!

Bad News Travels Fast, Is This Good Or Bad For Your Company - Dustin Smith

Bad news travels fast…what can you do? …  Respond.

25% of Americans polled say they are far more likely to spread bad reviews than good reviews. This seems like rather bleak news right? Well, lets think about this optimistically. If customers are reviewing your business poorly on the web, that gives you the opportunity to respond to that customer, address their complaint, and possibly regain that custom as well as advertise your business to whomever was tuning in on your conversation. If they weren’t complaining online at all, then you wouldn’t have the opportunity to communicate with them.

Now, if you aren’t paying attention to what is said about you online, then yes, bad reviews on the web will be bad for business.

Another poll reveals that 68% of customers who leave negative feedback receive a response from the company…Here is the important statistic: 18% of those polled said that the response was enough to make them loyal customers. (Reference)

So what are some simple tasks you can undertake to monitor your reputation on the web…

1) Monitor Review Sites. Be sure to monitor local review site like Yelp.com, Local.com, Google Places, etc. On Google Places you can also claim your business listing. Here you can monitor what is being said about your business or service, its location, and more.

2) Monitor Link-backs. You can view who is linking to your website with Google Analytics, Alexa Ranking, etc. Spend some time finding out who is linking your website and whether they are spreading good vibes or just knocking your business. You should be able to contact the individual via comments or some other social outlet. This is another way you can address the individuals complaints.

3) Monitor your own site, blog, and social networks. Don’t forget about the basics. All of those outlets you are trying to reach customers through, you need to monitor those. Many customers will give feedback (positive and negative) right on your Facebook wall or they will mention you in a negative tweet.

Amazing tool for B2B and Social Media Sharing…”Business Exchange”

Since its launch in 2008, Business Exchange has seen rather successful growth as it is ranked ~680 most trafficked website via Alexa ranking. It doesn’t have great exposure though. I have only seen it mentioned in an article once and I never see tweets about it…which is odd because everything gets a tweet here and there.

After learning of Business Exchange I got signed up and went to work surfing all of its aspects and features. There is an incredible collection of articles on today’s topics and issues in all the relevant fields( internet marketing, social media, small business marketing, etc).

You can fill out a profile or link your profile directly to your LinkedIn profile, which is very cool. You have the capability to post new topics or “contribute” to current topics. You do so by inserting a link to an article and adding a description. Then you have the option of notifying others of this post via Twitter and LinkedIn.

Another way of “contributing” is by “reacting”, which is basically commenting on others posts. These also you can post via Twitter and LinkedIn.

Business Exchange is a great place to get your ideas and articles out on the web and a great place to network. You can follow others and gain followers yourself, which could then turn into LinkedIn connections, which could then turn into business partners.

Check it out and start contributing! Click on the picture above to visit my profile, see what it is all about, and sign up for Business Exchange (its free btw!).
